Objective of the project

The National Bank of Commerce (U) Ltd project had four objectives

  • To automate one upcountry branch which was still operating on a manual system
  • To set up a head office branch and to separate its data from that of the main city branch.
  • To install and configure the signature verification module
  • To set up and automate contract-based invrstment products some of which were still being handled manually
  • THE SOLUTION
    Fintech installed, and commissioned the Microbanker version 12.3 complete with Graphical User Inter-phase for the following modules:
    Core Banking
    Data Entry
    Loans and Deposits
    General Report Writer
    Signature Verification

    Fintech provided user training for technical skills transfer. The bank has since  entered into an Annual Maintenance Contract with Fintech and are immensely happy with the level of support  being provided. The project was done between November 2004 to April 2005.

    Challenges
    NBC’s upcountry branch operations were entirely manual-based. Extraction of client details to electronic files was a major challenge. This was achieved by extensive and intricate planning and was successfully accomplished prior to the commencement of the project.

    Benefits
    The Project helped NBC to synchronize their multi-branch databases and thus facilitated online real-time inter-branch transactions. The Signature verification enabled tellers to promptly verify identity of account holders at the teller desk.

    Automatic tracking of customer liability is now possible with the new system. Automatic calculation and application of interest, charges and taxes is configured into the system. Advanced customer information query for consolidated information is now possible.

    Bank realized a return on their investment because the figures for number of customers at the branch have increased significantly. Their bank deposit amounts have also risen considerably.
